First problem has occurred.
Vista Sidebar went unresponsive and crashed. The clock gadget in the sidebar had stopped at 12:23 - exactly the time when I enabled the default settings in AWM
Firefox and outlook are still responding OK. Explorer.exe did NOT crash

Martyn,
I'm not certain, but I think that the Vista sidebar might actually be a part of the shell or, at least, part of it is part of the shell (think of the shell/IE integration of yore). The reason I say this is that, on my system, whenever the sidebar crashes, explorer problems inevitably follow, and when the shell crashes, the sidebar goes with it.
Regards, Jeff

After the Sidebar crash I left the system running with AWM running - no further changes to it.
All seemed to be running OK - firefox. Outlook Onenote groove, project clock all running
After about 2 hours I started Internet Explorer. All windows went berserk - repainting themselves and flashing and going black.
I left the system like that for about 5 minutes. When I came back it was all working OK again.

I disabled all of the options specified and started Actual Window Tools with the same result, sorry to say. I touched the power button, Actual Window Tools was terminated, I was prompted for shutdown, I canceled same and my system appears stable again. |
Jeffrey, thank you for your tries. Please tell me what function in your system is assigned to the Power button.
Also, please try to disable the 64-bit part of AWM by renaming the ActualWindowManager64.x64 executable, then run AWM and see if it changes the situation in any way.

Gerard, thank you for your answers. Do you have any progress with the step-by-step testing?

Martyn, you've done the great work so far! Just to make it precise - are you testing AWM components separately or combined?
Did you encounter the first crash with Default Settings enabled only? Do you have any exclusions or specific settings for SideBar windows?
