I've started using PicPick, which is a great screen capture tool. But I've just noticed that it doesn't seem to recognise that AWM is running (or should that be the other way around ? :) ). I don't get any title buttons or menu options from either the control menu or taskbar icon.

Not sure whether this started with 6.2b1 or was there in 6.1 also. Can't easily check due to runtime library mismatch errors (even though I install Betas to a different directory, it seems they don't like the library changing).

Interestingly, PicPick child windows (like options, colour picker, etc.) have the normal AWM decorations. Its just the main window which doesn't.

Cheers,

Dave.

David,

First of all - to get rid of "Library version mismatch" error, it's enough to re-login (in case you don't use the console windows support - otherwise, you need to reboot your PC completely).

As for the PicPick, please check what credentials it runs under.

Well, this isn't going to be an easy one I'm afraid. As for credentials, if I follow what you mean, then its just a regular .exe file running as me - at least that's what task manager shows. Don't think it does anything clever in that department. It's not even an installed app - it's portable (as so many of my favourite apps are these days :) ). And I ran it long after AWM had started up.

So, I thought I'll quit the app and turn on logging. And of course as soon as I do that, all the title buttons and menus show up as they should

Perhaps it was just a glitch and AWM missed the window create message for some reason. I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can reproduce it.

Cheers,

David.

OK - it just happened again with PicPick, and this time I managed to catch it in the act. Here's the recipe to reproduce, which is quite reliable here. I even have a suspicion as to why (see end):

1. Start PicPick
2. Press ALT+PRTSCRN to capture the active window. PicPick will show its main image editing window with AWM 'extras'.
3. Without closing the PickPick window, activate another window and press ALT+PRTSCRN to capture again. Now the PicPick window is displayed without AWM 'extras'.

BTW, this works with just straight PRTSCRN (capturing the whole desktop) too - its just that I was capturing windows at the time I noticed!

The reason this is happening I think is that PicPick (being a screen capture tool) momentarily hides its window when you press the capture hotkey (ALT+PRTSCRN) so that you capture what's underneath it, rather than capturing PicPick itself. Its this hiding/redisplaying mechanism which seems to trigger the loss of AWM button, etc.

Hopefully you'll be able to track it down now!

Thanks,

David.
