Hi,

Could you explain Command Prompt Windows Support a little more. I've read the page in the help file and I've kind of got the idea.

It seems to me they are 'DOS windows' and you now have a way to add Actual Tools Window Manager functionality to them. I have to admit, I was not aware that you could not do this before. Probably because I rarely use DOS window based applications.

Are you asking us to test DOS window type applications to ensure the new functionality works with as many DOS window applications as possible?

The reason I ask is because there is not much I would want to do with a DOS window. What I would REALLY like is for Windows Copy and Paste to work in them - none of this Mark-> Enter-> Paste stuff- but I think this is outside the scope of ATWM.

Hi Greg, nice to see you here again!

OK, here is an explanation: actually, we are talking about native Win32 console applications, not pure old 16-bit DOS programs. Win32 console applications are similar to DOS programs only in one way: they also use just text interface and therefore look identical; however, in depth Win32 and DOS programs quite different.

The new Command Prompt Windows Support feature is intended to use for Win32 console windows. The most simple and widespread example of such windows is "Command Prompt" (cmd.exe) available via "Start -> All Programs -> Accessoires -> Command Prompt". It's native 32-bit command-line Windows shell using system console (text window) for input/output.

There are many other programs like cmd.exe - native 32-bit applications using text-only interface a.k.a. system console (I believe, Far is the most famous).

Hope I have clarified our request enough. If any questions remain - please feel free to ask.

Hi Alexey,

It's nice to be back. I've been studying this year, fine arts, and have just finished all my assessments for the year - the academic year in Australia is Feb-Nov.

Thank you for the extra info on Command Prompt Windows and Console Applications. I'll see what I can come with.
