A bit of an issue that's been around for a while is sluggishness when mouse-resizing certain windows. This is most apparent when resizing internet browsers with lots of tabs opened, like Cyberfox/Firefox.

For example, right now, I have 100 tabs open in this Cyberfox window. If I try to mouse-resize the window, there is a noticeable delay in the window resizing behind the mouse's movement. In fact, I can move my mouse back and forth a number of times and stop, and then watch the window resize itself 5-6 times, catching up even while my mouse is stopped moving.

I assumed this was just an inevitable part of the operating system, until I found this script:

http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/scripts/EasyWindowDrag_%28KDE%29.htm

It uses AutoHotKey to provide the same features. When I use this script to resize windows, the moving and resizing happens instantly, without any delay -- even this current Cyberfox window with 100+ tabs open.

I'm not sure what the actual difference is between the two methods -- maybe AWM is hooking into OS/mouse/display .dll's/API while the AutoHotKey script is just more "surface"-level. But is there any chance AWM's mouse-resizing and moving abilities could be improved upon to fix on this?

Worst case scenario, I can just use the AHK script and disable AWM's mouse-movement abilities, which wouldn't be a problem. I just like being able to have everything contained within AWM's greatness, and not have to use something else external!

Thanks for the help, as always!

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the post.

We'll investigate it.

Steve,

You could also go to the "Actual Window Manager -> Options -> Window Snapping" pane and set the "To the grid" option = "1".

This workaround may speed up the "Make the entire window area responsive to dragging/sizing" feature.

Best regards.
